Liebster Award

Allo allo allo! So some news, I'm so touched that fellow blogger Dellilah from Dellilahs Notebook has nominated me for the Liebster Award. The Liebster Award is given to up and coming bloggers who have less than 200 followers. It's a great way for us new bloggers to interact, build confidence in our blogs and to discover new blogs! What is a Liebster? The meaning: Liebster is German and means sweetest, kindest, nicest, dearest, beloved, lovely, kind, pleasant, valued, cute, endearing and welcome. To be nominated is such a compliment and I'm excited to start cracking on this post!

The Basic Rules
1. Each blogger should answer the questions the tagger has set for you
2. Choose 11 new bloggers to pass the award onto and link them in your post
3. Create 11 new questions for the chosen bloggers
4. Go back to their page and tell them about the award
5. Each blogger should post 11 random facts about themselves
6. No tag-backs!

What Dellilah asked

1. If you have £1 (a euro in my case) what's the first thing that comes to mind to buy?
I would probably g to the shop and buy a dairymilk!
2. You would love to trade places with...?
Hmmm..Grace Coddington would be cool to trade with or Lori Anne Allison (Johnny Depp's wife). Then I'd love to be one of Sir Phillip Green's daughters! :P
3. If you could do one thing for the rest of your life what would it be?
Pick and choose anything I want to wear no matter what the price is!
4. Coming to beauty, do you spend more time on your face or hair?
I'm gonna say my face. I like taking time to do my make-up. If I rush I get hot and flustered and then I just don't feel nice.
5. One key item every girl should have in her closet?
A good quality white t-shirt! Such a staple!
6. What is the reason behind your blog name?
It took me aaaages to come up with one. I looked up sites on how to come up with a name and a lot of them were really silly. I like having alliteration in a name because it's easy to remember and rolls off the tongue well. I also wanted it to connect with me personally, either include my name or a word that described me. So I came up with Lastest Lil which I suppose really means what's the Latest with Lily! Pretty appropriate!
7. If you were a singer what would you name your first album?
I hate stupid album names. I would either not give it a name at all or just call it Album no.1.
8. Is there any word you use a lot in your conversation?
Yes! I use "like" a LOT! But doesn't everyone? I imitate a lot of gangster talk too and say "Holla fo a dolla" inspired by Honey Boo Boo.
9. Which make up and clothing brand never fails you?
Make-up: I love Maybelline foundation, Benefit is my favourite brand, Barry M for nail polish and MAC for powder. Clothing: For style and originality I have to say Topshop. For quality and awesome basics American Apparel - although it's pricey it's made and produced in the U.S!
10. I would love to know is there any unusual  item you own?
I actually don't. Nothing that's too out there anyway!? I have a long navy dress that I bought in a thrift shop that makes me look slightly like a nun!?

11 random acts about ME!

1. I was a total tomboy and played all sports when I was younger. I even wanted to be a boy and swore I would never EVER wear make-up or a dress.

2. I HATE blowing my nose - I've never successfully done it. Yuck.

3. The first time I EVER dyed my hair was last year and it was a balayage and I haven't looked back!

4. I turn into a complete culchie at work (a pub in the country) to talk to the local customers. Then when I'm at a dinner party with mum's acquaintances I'm all law-dee-daw dah-ling!

5. Before I decided I wanted to do fashion, I had planned on becoming an outdoor education instructor.

6. I love getting into a cold bed. Warm pillows are a no-go!

7. I crack my neck, fingers, back - anything! I know it's bad but I love doing it!

8. I like to do different accents. They're not very good but it makes everyone laugh!

9. I cried when my mum put my gold and white dress in the washing machine and all the gold came off. It was my prize dress. Waaaa

10. If someone is beside me I tend to hit or slap them when something exciting is happening. If no-one's there then it's the arm of the chair that gets it.

11. Ah the last one - I'm really bad for talking though movies/ TV shows and trying to guess the plot of a story when someone is telling it.

SS '13 at Jervis Shopping Centre

Irish summer isn't what everyone expects summer to be. It’s cold, wet and windy. Maybe if we’re lucky we get the odd day of warm sunshine. However, through the streets of Irish cities SS’13 trends are prevailing. Some of us are jetting off to the Balearic Islands stocking up on bikinis, shorts and maxi’s while the rest are interpreting the trends to suit our weather.

There is such a wide variety of trends this summer from 90’s grunge to the swinging 60’s, monochrome to empowering print, flowing oriental to structured suits. There are so many ways to rock the trends; if you’re shy, test-drive them through an accessory like a bag or a scarf or attempt some statement jewellery to transform your look. Otherwise if you’re daring; be bold and step out in a full-fledged outfit. Either way the summer of 2013 is the season to try out new trends and embrace your fashionable self.

It’s a relief when you find yourself in a shopping centre that offers every trend. And the Jervis Shopping Centre certainly does. Find your inner punk in TOPSHOP where Kate Moss is queen and plaid is you new best friend. Try out prints with lashings of neon in Forever21. Be daring and rock laser cut leather and metallic in Bershka. Or play it pretty with pastels and lace in Miss Selfridge. No matter what size, age or shape you are every trend for every person is available at just a few steps apart in the Jervis Shopping Centre.

90's grunge at TOPSHOP

Futuristic metallic and laser cut leather in Bershka

Pretty pastels and frill in Miss Selfridge

Neon brights and lots of print at Forever21

Lemme know what you think!

Outfit Post: Home Base

Despite this temperamental weather I actually managed to get outside on my day off work and take a few snaps. The main reason I wanted to do this outfit was because of my B E A - UTIFUL new heels from New Look. I've been wanting a pair like these for ages and came across them about 2 weeks ago and they only cost €20! They're such a striking red, I paired them with my baggy jeans from A|Wear and white baseball t-shirt from H&M. Keeping it simple.

I can't get enough of mixing ladylike and sport. Who knew it would mesh so well?

Our dog Janie decided to get in on the action, you'll spot her further down!

Jeans: A|wear,  Top:  H&M,  Heels and aviators:  New Look

D.I.Y - Paint Blob Necklace

This D.I.Y is quite similar to another one I did with a gold chain and a ribbon which you can read HERE
It's simple, all you need is
A chunky chain (I got this one in Pennys/Primark for €5)
And some nail polish - use as many colours as you like - I used four.

Top: Miss Selfridge,  Black heels: River Island,  Blue skort: ZARA,  Gold casio watch,  Stamp clutch: Mary Katantzou,  Black boots:  Office

I really want ALL of this.

I spotted this white top from Miss Selfridge on a friend of a friend, it had a really good fit and shape to it and I luuurve all the embellishments. White is big for summer and so are embellishments so this top is a must have! Also the scalloped edge is a plus!

Next up are these absolutely totally wonderful black pointed court heels from River Island. OH MY GOD am I in love. Every time I've strolled into River I've gone to the shoe dept just to try them on and look at them. I swore I would never wear this type of heel ever! But now look at me, as I grow my fashion sense grows with me and I'm finding myself desperately wanting these shoes!

Now, this skort. These are everywhere and I've been waiting to find the perfect one. Low and behold I found one in Zara, of course. Lots of top bloggers around the world have been sporting these and I've been waiting for a high street store to produce well cut, structured replicas for a reasonable price. An they have. Thank God!! Well, thank ZARA.

Casio watch tiiiiiiime. Yay! I have a mini collection of watches but alas it doesn't consist of any gold! Not good. I've always wanted one of these babies but always dismiss it to the back of my mind 'cause they are quite expensivo for a watch. But now I want one and somehow I'm gonna get it.

This is a bit of a blow-out. Ever since Mary Katrantzou showed her first collection in 2008 I've been a fan. She is the queen of print! Underwater scenes, ribbons and parcel prints, architecture, floral, money and in her SS '13 collection; stamps! A bright printed clutch can totally change an outfit and I have yet to actually invest in a printed clutch. I'm on the hunt for a cheap replica of this beaut.

"Oh no, not more shoes Lily!" direct quote from mother dearest. Yes, two pairs in one wishlist. I had to include these. WANT WANT WANT! Black laced up boots with a slight heel, perfect for my short self. I feel a bit odd wanting so many black shoes as I'm quite a colourful dresser most of the time but you can't have enough black shoes I reckon...right?

Ugh writing this post has just made me REALLY want to go shopping.

Anyhow whatcha think of my wishlist?

Empower Studio - HD Brows

This post is a little bit different to what I usually write about but I may possibly start doing (sporadic) beauty posts!?
On Wednesday I trotted along to Empower Studio on 51 South William St. (above Project 51). I found these guys through twitter when I saw that they were giving away a special deal to get HD brows for €15 as opposed to the usual price of around €50! I've never had my eyebrows done before but after seeing some of their work on other people I was dead set on giving it a go!
There's a few steps to HD brows, I can't exactly remember ALL of them but there is dying, shaping, waxing and plucking to name a few. Fionnuala did my brows and she was brilliant! Totally friendly and chatty and was really knowledgeable about products and gave me loads of tips!

Unfortunately I didn't take a photo before I left for the studio but this is the closest one I could find that showed clearly how my brows looked before.

It takes a few sessions to get the complete look of a HD brow. Depending on the shape and thickness of your brows decides how many times you should go back to get them shaped, dyed etc.

I was told I had a pretty good shape and thickness to my brows but I was missing a few small patches that could do with some growing. I was recommended the HD Brows Grow Baby Grow which pulls hair from the follicles where hair has stopped growing. It literally pulls hair up from the dead! And here's a fun tip; this Grow Baby Grow also works on your lashes! So if you're suffering from short or barely there lashes, use this  product over a period of a few weeks and your lashes will have grown!
Although the session only cost €15 I splurged a little and bought the Grow Baby Grow which cost €30 from Empower but I'm sure it's gonna be totally worth it! I can't wait to try it on my lashes! Whooo!

If you're one of those people like me who don't particularly want to pay loooooads of money for beauty treatments then I can't recommend Empower Studio enough! They are doing a few really good deals at the moment like Brows for €15 on Wednesday and Make Up for €20 on Saturdays! Just check out their twitter HERE to follow and redeem the offers!

Hope you enjoyed the post?
Lemme know your thoughts down below in the comment box...if you have any of course!

D.I.Y - Beaded Fringe Top

It feels like aaages since I did a D.I.Y. I've been meaning to do a fringe top but I wanted to change it up a bit from your regular fringe. It's about time I did it now seeing as we're approaching festival season. I found a few beads from an old set I had when I was a kid and thought they'd look cool on the ends of the fringes.

So, what you need:
An old t-shirt (or new, whatevs!)
Fabric scissors
A marker (not pictured - preferably a laundry marker)
A selection of coloured beads
